Navy Reserve
Information Warfare Officers (formerly Cryptology)
Cryptology in the Navy Reserve combines two related skills --
cryptography and cryptanalysis. Cryptography is the area of disguising
communications to protect them. Cryptanalysis is the art of deciphering
the coded communications of others.
Navy Reserve Information Warfare Officers are trained in the Navy
Reserve Security Group to operate and maintain specialized electronic
equipment such as radio receivers, antennas, recorders and computers.
Annual Training assignments can be at Naval Security Group sites in the
United States or overseas and the National Security Agency.
Basic
Education Requirement
Bachelor's or postgraduate degree from an accredited college in
Mathematics, Electronics, Physics or calculus-based Computer Science.
Prior service or experience as a Cryptologic Technician a huge plus.
Age
Requirement
At least 19 but less than 40 at time of appointment. Age waiver to 42
granted for prior military service.
Special
Requirements
Applicant and Immediate family members must be U.S. citizens (waivers
available for family members if not US citizens). Applicants must
successfully complete a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI).
Applicants must not have history of arrests, financial bankruptcy, or
poor employment record in order to qualify for the necessary Top Secret
security clearance.
